New video for you today, again from 2018. Bootleggers are quite fast these days, offering new shows almost after the concert is over. A big thank you to whotapes for recording this incredible concert. This is the fifth concert of the 2018 US Fall Tour and the 47th of the year. Bob is great, as always, with his classic set, and the return of Cry A While.
This year we are marking the 30th anniversary of the Never Ending Tour, Bob constant touring around the world since Concord, CA, June 7th 1988. In 30 years, Bob radically changed his style and voice multiple times, releasing 14 studio albums (from Down In The Groove to Triplicate), and playing almost 3000 concerts.
The US Fall Tour continues, with two shows in Texas. And Bob offered a real barn-burner of a concert. The night starts slowly with Things Have Changed, with a bossa nova vibe. The band tries to find its groove, but Stu is not there to help. Thankfully, they grow bigger and better as the night passes on.
Out of nowhere, comes Cry A While. Incredible bass by Tony Garnier while Bob plays furiously on the piano, standing like Ray Charles. New lyrics for When I Paint My Masterpiece “the lions with that mean and hungry look in their eyes”.
But the real gem of this wonderful gig was Like A Rolling Stone. Bob slows his phrasing right at the end of the verse and the crowd goes wild. Gotta Serve Somebody also receives new lyrics: “You may be hallucinating..You may be seeing ghosts! But you still gotta serve somebody!”. Love Sick is fantastic and the harmonica during the encore will ease your mind. A really magnificent show, with great sound, that I highly recommend.
